I applied at Tommy Bahama’s because I really liked the management. I had previously worked with several of the employees who spoke highly of the managers and felt like it was a place that I would enjoy working.
I have been in the restaurant industry for many years and was able to be hired as a bartender. I have been at the cafe for two years now.
I was born in Guam but raised in the Bay Area in California. I have been in Hawai’i for 10 years and I love it. A big part of that is that I enjoy my work. I also tend bar at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Wailea. It’s in the same complex, so I don’t have to do a lot of driving when I work a double.
My favorite part about the job is probably the people I work for and with. We get a lot of really interesting customers and I enjoy interacting with our guests. The staff is very professional and I really appreciate my co-workers personalities and work ethic. Everyone has a very upbeat attitude. I feel like that is what makes me good at my job. I come in to work every day with a positive outlook.
The cafe has great food. We serve a lot of sandwiches and salads with a Caribbean flare. It’s easy to succeed because the product is great and the staff is helpful.
While I have no immediate plans to leave my position, I’m open to the idea of possibly managing a restaurant one day. That will be a little ways in the future, though. I’m happy with things at present. MTW
