You can bet your bottom dollar that Maui audiences will be in for a treat when they see the heartwarming musical Annie this holiday season. Co-produced by Maui OnStage and Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA), Annie runs November 27 through December 13 at the historic Iao Theater in downtown Wailuku. Click here to purchase tickets
With classic songs like “Hard Knock Life,” (Jay-Z’s version) “Easy Street,” “N.Y.C.,” and “Tomorrow,” Annie boasts one of Broadway’s most memorable scores. Based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, the award-winning musical tells the Depression-era story of a precocious red-headed orphan who finds a new family when she spends Christmas with New York City billionaire Daddy Warbucks.
The lead role is played by Seabury Hall freshman Tyler Charbonneau who heads-up a talented cast of Maui actors, including baritone Bob Wills as Daddy Warbucks and soprano Diedre Tegarden as the evil Miss Hannigan. And no production of Annie would be complete without a real dog on stage: Sandy will be played by Walter J. Dog of Wailuku.
New Yorker Brian Swasey directs and choreographs the upbeat, family-friendly show, with musical direction by Bob Wills, set design by Caro Walker, costumes by Kathleen Schulz and lighting design by Mark Collmer.
Performances run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from November 27 to December 13 at the Historic Iao Theater in Wailuku. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 3:00 pm with two additional Saturday matinees at 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 5 and 12. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students and seniors for the evening shows. All seats on Sundays are $15.
