If you’ve seen Matt Bailey, Managing Director of Grand Wailea, lately, then you probably noticed his new do. He’s walking around with a shaved head, the result of losing a recent wager with the Grand’s staff. Earlier this year he challenged his team to raise more than $32,000 at the Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk. […]

Location: The Triangle, this is a term of endearment, and I think its short for a euphemism for Bermuda Triangle, because you may feel as though you were dropped into this mysterious zone after a few rounds in this area that is tightly packed with fun drinking and eating establishments. (AKA Kihei Kalama Village).
Is it just me or is Indian food as rare on this island as a hot, 30-something bachelor with a job? As a native born Indian, who recently moved to Maui, I was determined to find the best spots for authentic Indian cuisine. I was surprised to discover that in a place like Maui, where […]
The Humuhumunukunukuapua’a Restaurant at the lovely Grand Wailea Resort has got to have one of the longest names ever, so we call it Humu for short. Starting next week Sunday March 13 they are launching Localvore week where they feature an amazing pre fixe menu that exemplifies the glorious bounty we can create on […]
Comfort food is trendy right now, but Bev Gannon was way ahead of the curve, opening her Wailea comfort food joint, Joe’s Bar and Grill in 1995. Comfort food is an aptly named genre of cooking, food that fills the tummy, eases anxiety with familiarity, but it is often associated with dives and diners. It […]

With the opening of Pita Paradise Wailea, the Arabatzis family has more than a few generations of Mediterranean cuisine experience to share with us, the culture of food runs deep in Greece. Did you know people have been eating feta cheese since the Byzantine? It was good then and it rocks now.

Better yet, it should be said, it’s Gomega Mondays at Diamonds.Gomega’s set kicks off at 10pm — with the bar filling steadidly in the minutes before hand — and takes you through to the closing hour. When I greeted Kanoa (that’s “K-A-N-O-A, from Upountry Maui,” who I’ve oft heard hailed as “Maui’s most versitile/talented musician”) […]
Everyone in the restaurant industry is talking about locavore dining but how can we move this initiative into our own kitchens? Finding fresh Maui grown fruits and vegetables can get tricky since not all places you buy these products from label their origins.
I had to learn the hard way that not all farmers markets are created equal. Just because they have the word “farmers” in the title doesn’t mean the farms in question are on-island or even in the state. If you’re not sure, and it’s not labeled, you can always ask. Another way to tell
I want to eat what these guys are making. Here is the thing, if dining has gotten boring, take it to Three’s. Its a new casual elegant, and they are dedicated to thinking out of the box. I am consistently and genuinely surprised. Keep an eye and an ear out for their upcoming dinners, where […]
The term Supper Club has a colorful history. Its a social destination, its classy cocktails, upscale dining, and on-stage entertainment. In the 1930’s & 40’s some went underground to become prohibition clubs. At least on Maui cocktails are legal thanks to the LC and Stella Blues’ Supper Club is rockin’.
Today is the last day for the current location of Horihitos (and Keoki’s Fish and Chips). Owner Jorge Galavaiz has not announced the new location yet. Lease is up at their next to Starbuck’s in Kihei location and they are closing the doors. Its not the first time, their lovely Lipoa Street location closed a […]
I love the spaciousness of this joint–the wonderful open-air feeling, even when all the doors and shut up for a night’s concert (like the Voodoo Glow Skulls on Saturday, September 19th). The screens that line the top of the bar loop a mix of surf videos and underwater scenes, branded with the Oceans logo. Though […]
