This is a tough one. Kihei isn’t exactly a walkable town–sidewalks are rare and portions of South Kihei Road more closely resemble a street racing course than a local thoroughfare–and it’s pretty much the best definition of “urban sprawl” I’ve yet found in Hawaii. Indeed, much of the South Maui coast is hidden from view […]
This goes out to those six drunken jerks who were partying like college kids on a South Maui beach late one night. Not only did you make complete asses of yourselves, but you trashed the beach with your broken bottles and dumped charcoal. It’s too bad that some kid will come by and injure himself […]
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a HIGH SURF WARNING for SOUTH FACING SHORES of MAUI COUNTY in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Kihei just got a little greener. Last Friday was the official grand opening of the first phase of the town’s new 44-acre park. The South Maui community started asking for a park in the late 1980s, and Mayor Alan Arakawa said this has been the work of four administrations now. “The park is next to […]
The new Peter Max gallery, The Art of Meter Max, opened its doors in the Shops at Wailea last Friday. The artist is well known for revolutionizing the poster art industry in the 196o’s with his graphic, obtainable poster art. This is one of two galleries in the world dedicated to his art. Location: The Triangle, this is a term of endearment, and I think its short for a euphemism for Bermuda Triangle, because you may feel as though you were dropped into this mysterious zone after a few rounds in this area that is tightly packed with fun drinking and eating establishments. (AKA Kihei Kalama Village).
Is it just me or is Indian food as rare on this island as a hot, 30-something bachelor with a job? As a native born Indian, who recently moved to Maui, I was determined to find the best spots for authentic Indian cuisine. I was surprised to discover that in a place like Maui, where […]

Starting next week Sunday March 13 they are launching Localvore week where they feature an amazing pre fixe menu that exemplifies the glorious bounty we can create on […]
Comfort food is trendy right now, but Bev Gannon was way ahead of the curve, opening her Wailea comfort food joint, Joe’s Bar and Grill in 1995. Comfort food is an aptly named genre of cooking, food that fills the tummy, eases anxiety with familiarity, but it is often associated with dives and diners. It […]

Better yet, it should be said, it’s Gomega Mondays at Diamonds.Gomega’s set kicks off at 10pm — with the bar filling steadidly in the minutes before hand — and takes you through to the closing hour. When I greeted Kanoa (that’s “K-A-N-O-A, from Upountry Maui,” who I’ve oft heard hailed as “Maui’s most versitile/talented musician”) […]
