I love the spaciousness of this joint–the wonderful open-air feeling, even when all the doors and shut up for a night’s concert (like the Voodoo Glow Skulls on Saturday, September 19th). The screens that line the top of the bar loop a mix of surf videos and underwater scenes, branded with the Oceans logo. Though […]

With the opening of Pita Paradise Wailea, the Arabatzis family has more than a few generations of Mediterranean cuisine experience to share with us, the culture of food runs deep in Greece. Did you know people have been eating feta cheese since the Byzantine? It was good then and it rocks now.
The preparation of cocktails and enjoying them is changing. Going out for cocktails is just as much a farm to glass phenomenon following the dining trends and elevating the cocktail experience and culture. No longer a social-lubricating afterthought, they are used to stimulate the appetite, or as an aid in digestion.
Capische? in the Hotel Wailea is hands down one of the sexiest places on-island to sip a drink. It could be their intimate settting of only nine tables here. Or the breathtaking views of the ocean, sunset is glorious here. The restaurant’s old world charm is very european and alluring. Despite all these attractions I think it is the passion in the kitchen and behind the bar that really heats things up here.
The Royal Lahaina Resort was built in 1962 and is still going strong as a Kaanapali destination. Nestled along the Kaanapali strip, but on the Honokowai side of Black Rock, and full of old school charm. They have recently stepped up their entertainment and committed to a concert series kicking off with Five for Fighting in April and Toad the Wet Sprocket in May. Their latest announcement is the renovation of their lawns, and the opening of the Oceanfront Barefoot Bar.

DESCRIPTION: The Wailea outpost of Pita Paradise is a grown-up version of its Kihei Kalama Village predecessor. There’s an outdoor alfresco dining on a sophisticated lanai, or behind closed doors you can enjoy the climate controlled interior. High seats at the fully-equipped-to-give-you-a-buzz bar are good vantage points to embrace your inner Dionysus, the Greek god […]
Best Local Pizza Fabiani’s This year, our readers decided that Maui’s very best pizza comes from Fabiani’s in Kihei. It only took a year for this family-owned restaurant to move up from their getting named as last year’s best new restaurant to this year’s best pizza. Their thin crust Italian American artisan pizza starts with […]
Best Sushi Sansei While DK Kodama’s successful Sansei restaurant is more than just sushi–he loaded the menu with gobs of wonderful Japanese cuisine, all bearing his special touches–it’s the sushi that has our readers excited. Sansei’s substantial list of rolls, nigiri and sashimi have been groundbreaking, and despite lots of efforts to make inventive sushi […]
Photo Courtesy of Five Palms Best Pupus Five Palms Our readers’ favorite spot to order pupus has been located in the Mana Kai Hotel, overlooking the bay at Keawekapu Beach, since 1995. The Chinese rib pupu at Five Palms is amazing, and the scallops, soups, salads and sushi pack the menu with variety. A phenomenal […]
Best Happy Hour Milagro’s It’s tequila on the menu at Maui’s best happy hour, where they pour some of the best margaritas on the island. Milagro’s sits at Baldwin Avenue and Hana Highway in Paia, and is one of the most delightful spots on the island to sip a refreshing beverage–so much so that it’s […]
Chef Bret Pafford I’m kind of obsessed with Gannon’s right now. And not just with their new menu, which has quietly rolled out over the last couple of months–it’s the the whole package. The place has become a hotspot for nightlife in Wailea. Chef Bret Pafford shows great passion for fresh fish and all things […]
