WEINBERG NEAR TOP!
Every once in a while I look over The Maui 10 and see that the Weinberg Foundation is still on the list. And then I smile. I smile because I can’t remember for the life of me why I put them on the list in the first place. Weinberg Foundation? What have they done lately, besides own that giant vacant lot in Lahaina near the Cannery Mall where the drug addicts and bike thieves like to live? Well, here’s the answer: the November issue of the magazine Hawaii Business has their annual Top 20 Wealthiest Landowners in the state, and once again, Weinberg made the top five. In fact, they’re ranked number five, with holdings totaling 2,397 acres valued at nearly $1.2 billion. Most of their land and stuff is on Oahu, but on Maui they own the Lahaina Shopping Center, the Lahaina Center and the Kahului Industrial park. Oh, and that vacant lot.

GOODFELLOW REQUIRES PATIENCE
The goal, motorists stuck in traffic on either Pi`ilani Highway headed to South Kihei Road or Mokulele Highway on their way to Pi`ilani Highway should remember, is an easier drive for all into Kihei. Of course, it’s hard to believe that considering that Goodfellow Brothers recently switched that whole Mokulele-Pi`ilani intersection around. “Thank you also to each driver for your patience and understanding as we construct these improvements,” Chad Goodfellow wrote in a Maui News letter on Nov. 11. Residents at Kihei Villages—which borders Uwapo Road, which now receives a great deal more traffic than before the intersection alteration—received notices that construction should take about three months. Of course, Goodfellow has told The Maui News that the Mokulele work should be done by July 2008, which is eight months from now. MTW
