It may have been nearly 65 years since bombs have fallen on Hawai`i,
but that doesn’t mean a company like Tesoro Hawai`i can’t make a few
bucks off war. That’s right: Tesoro’s two oil refineries in the state
will soon be turning out precious, precious jet fuel for the U.S. Army.
Now on the great scale of war contracts this is pretty low—just $6.03
million—but there were six bids vying for the honor of supplying the
army with fuel for helicopters and… well, I guess just their
helicopters. And good ol’ MECO drops a couple notches on news last week
that “seized pistons” at their main power generator blacked out West
Maui and Upcountry for 90 minutes. For shame… MTW
