The second edition of TEDxMaui is just two months away. Ted Talks created an international spirit of exchanging information, or “ideas worth spreading,” as their mission statement says. TEDx conferences are organized at the local level and are designed to stimulate dialogue in the community. TEDx Maui is still coordinating some of the speakers, but the date for the event is set: Jan. 13, 2013 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Tickets are on sale now.
All TEDxMaui talks are videotaped and broadcast on their website. Subjects like art, business, culture, entertainment and science are part of the message.
Dr. Gary Greenberg, a Maui scientist and inventor, gave one of the talks presented at the January 2012 conference. The mother site, TED.com, selected that talk to be featured on its site, which is quite an accomplishment for the TEDxMaui crew. His presentation, titled “The Beautiful Nano Details of our World,” uses 3D microscopes to reveal the beauty in things not visible to the naked eye. It’s already seen web traffic in excess of 75,000 views.
“TED is one of the world’s largest online resources for sharing the best and most innovative ideas,” says TEDxMaui founder Katie McMillan. “Recently, it was reported that over one billion people have watched TED talks. To know that TEDxMaui is a vessel for bringing the remarkable work of Maui’s residents to that stage makes being a part of this team incredibly rewarding.”
TEDxMaui is currently seeking sponsors. For more information on sponsorship, visit their website tedxmaui.com or call McMillan at 808-283-4120.
