David Davis, the author of Waterman, the 2015 biography of the Hawaiian surfing and swimming legend Duke Kahanamoku, will speak and do a book-signing this Friday, Feb. 5 at Barnes & Noble in Lahaina. There are have been a number of Kahanamoku books over the years, but this is the first that really took a comprehensive look at his life. “He was the father of modern surfing, and in a sense, surf culture and the lifestyle,” Davis told me back in September, shortly before his book came out. Free. 2-5pm. Barnes & Noble (325 Keawe St., Lahaina), 808-662-1300.
