The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Maui in Wailuku is offering a deal to spay and neuter all dogs over 40 pounds for only $40 through the month of July. The “forty dollar fix” program is part of the SPCA’s mission of providing accessible fixes to all of Maui’s dog and cat owners in order to reduce the amount of homeless pets and pet overpopulation on the island.
“This big dog special should have made a significant difference in the number of large breed puppies entering our island shelter,” said SPCA Maui’s Peter Tierney in a June 28 press release.
“Large breed dogs have the biggest litters and cost as much as $500 to fix. Our Spay Neuter Assistance Program at SPCA Maui is designed to be quick, easy and no hassle too.”
SPCA Maui is a volunteer-staffed nonprofit, which reports that Maui has four times more animals entering their county-sponsored shelter annually than the national average. Because of this, they emphasize the health, social and financial value of spaying and neutering your pets.
