For those who thought the election of Obama ended racism forever (really, I wish that were a completely facetious statement but I believe some people really did think that):
According to an AP report, a justice of the peace in Louisiana refuses to issue marriage licenses to interracial couples, because he thinks it’ll be bad for their kids. Because no mixed race person ever went on to be, like, President of the United States or anything.
Here’s the money ‘graph: “I’m not a racist. I just don’t believe in mixing the races that way…I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.”
Anytime someone begins a sentence with “I’m not a racist…” you can bet your ass they’re a racist. Add that disturbing line about “piles and piles of black friends” and you’ve got all the makings of a guy who should not be issuing fishing licenses, let alone officiating the nuptials of human beings in the 21st century.
