The most recent campaign finance statement for State Senator Roz Baker, D–6th District, which she filed on July 10, shows that her campaign currently has $135,070.68 in the bank. What’s more, in the first six months of this year, the filing shows that her campaign raised $49,226.40. That’s a lot of money–especially since Terez Amato, Baker’s Democratic opponent in the upcoming Aug. 9 primary election, has less than a tenth of Baker’s surplus–just $11,042.74 in the bank–and has vowed not to accept corporate contributions.
But even given that disparity, Baker is apparently taking no chances. Though the 6th District is confined to South and West Maui, this notice just released by the Hawaii Campaign Spending Commission shows that on Monday, July 14 Baker will hold an evening fundraiser at Restaurant Epic in Honolulu’s Chinatown.
The term “limousine liberal” is an old slight, but given the event’s $300 “suggested contribution per person,” we think it might just apply here.
