Johnny Depp is pushing 50 (at what age exactly do pirates retire?) and the fourth sequel of the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is soon to be filmed on Kauai and Oahu. Somewhere between the second and third sequels, the plot line was lost in the sands of one of the many mystical isles Johnny and Orlando toured, in their strange and no-longer romantic pursuit of Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley), the breathtaking English noblewoman with the most dramatic jawline known to man and shamelessly airbrushed cleavage (oh, the miracles of makeup and clever shading.) Nevertheless, the fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean is sure to draw large audiences and according to Governor Lingle, an $85 million boost to Hawaii’s economy. Also, this sequel is based on a book called “On Stranger Tides,” by Tim Powers, so it’s quite possible there will be a coherent story-line this time.
Our diverse landscapes will make it easy for the producers to shoot different and interesting scenes for the production. Disney is certainly interested in Hawaii; the new Disney resort in Hawaii is due to open in 2011. This is good timing, because as Lost productions are coming to an end in Oahu, it is important to have a new project to fill that void. Best of luck to the new film and all the Johnny, Orlando, and Keira stalkers guaranteed to be swarming the set!
