Hawaii is going “Legally Blonde” on us and plans on decking out all new licenses in pink gradients and rainbows. Post a rainbow on a car bumper in any other state in the USA and it signifies gay pride, here it is simply our staple image… Basically, we can have rainbows or spam-musubis as our image. Considering the reputation of being “hick” food that SPAM has in that big, scary place called the ‘mainland,’ rainbows might be a better choice for the tourism industry. The last face lift took place in 2005, so is it simply time for the 5-year mark face lift, or were there viable reasons for our new bright, poppy licenses?
Maui County points out that the new design would be harder to forge or replicate, as each license has a unique document number printed on the front, and another, distinct number on the back. The signature overlaps “ghost” images on both sides and the Date of Birth is clearly printed on the back of the card. Also, (possibly because people dye their hair so much now) hair color and county code will no longer be noted. These changes went into effect February 1st, so be expect to see a new, young generation of pink, rainbow decked out card holders. Maybe in 2015 we’ll get gold sparkles donated by pre-school teachers. By:Sierra
