Formed in 1995, the nonprofit organization Assistance Dogs of Hawaii helps residents here get access to guide dogs. Will and Mo Mauer founded it, and today help numerous residents each year at their Upcountry campus.
“In 2000, Mo Maurer gave up a successful career as a CPA decided to devote herself full time to the Service Dog industry,” states the Assistance Dogs of Hawaii website. “Since then, Assistance Dogs of Hawaii has graduated over 30 Service Dog teams that are making a daily difference in the lives of their partners. Assistance Dogs of Hawaii has also placed numerous Therapy Dog Teams around the state. Assistance Dogs of Hawaii has also assisted in the placement of many Guide and Hearing Dog Teams.”
This weekend, Mo Mauer will be one of the first guests on a new Oahu-based news program called You’ve Got The Power. “The inspirational, uplifting, family-friendly show, focuses on people who have overcome great odds to be successful and then help many other people,” states a news release from Malia Zimmerman, the editor of Hawaii Reporter and one of the show’s producers.
Joining Mauer in the first episode will be Skylar Soares, the SBH Young Entrepreneur of the Year of 2013, and Delorese Gregoire, who helped found Winners Camp and has helped 15,000 teens learn leadership skills.
The show will air on Saturday, April 12 at 6:30pm on KGMB TV and again on Saturday, April 19 at 6pm on KHNL.
