It’s unprecedented. For the 16th time, Maui has been named “Best Island in the World” by Conde Nast Traveler‘s Readers’ Choice Awards Poll, earning a score of 90.7percent — the only island to score above 90percent. For 20 consecutive years of the poll’s 23-year existence, the Valley Isle has also been voted “Best Pacific Island” (Kaua’i placed second in this category with a score of 88.8percent, with Bora Bora just behind at 85.5percent). It was a resounding win for Maui Nei, as even winners in categories like “Best City” trailed in vote-getting (Oceania: Sydney, 86.1percent; U.S: San Francisco, 84.3percent; Europe: Florence, 84.6percent; Asia: Bankok, 82.9percent; Africa/Middle East: Capetown, 83.7percent; The Americas: Vancouver, 82.4percent).
Other categorical island winners are as follows:
Asia/Indian Ocean: Maldives, 86.4percent
Caribbean/Atlantic: Bermuda, 83.7percent
North America: Kiawah, 83percent
Europe: Mykonos and the Cyclades, 78percent
Further bulldozing the competition, four of the top five winners in the “Top Hawai‘i Resorts” list are from Maui County:
#1 Four Seasons Resort, Wailea
#2 Hotel Hana Maui and Honua Spa
#4 Four Seasons Resort, Manele Bay
#5 Four Seasons Resort, The Lodge at Ko’ele
Plus, the Fairmont Kea Lani, Wailea came in at #9, the Grand Wailea took the #11 spot, the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa, Ka’anapali tied for #15, and the Westin Resort and Spa, Ka’anapali tied with Kaua’i’s Marriott Beach Club for #20.
