Well, we knew it would come to this. We’ve got an election today, and here’s to hoping that at least half of those who registered to vote will actually cast a ballot. And why not? Look at all those glossy mailers that have been clogging up our mailboxes for the last four months–those things cost money! We wouldn’t them to go to waste now, would we?
If there’s anything about today’s vote that still mystifies you, check out the state Office of Elections website.
And remember, regardless of how any of today’s election contests go, tomorrow we all still have to live with each other.
Here are a few election night gatherings that we found out about:
• If Democratic candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor are your thing, head over to the David Ige/Shan Tsutsui HQ over at the Old Kahului Shopping Center (65 W. Ka’ahumanu Ave., Kahului). The event starts at 6:30pm.
• The SHAKA Movement, which helped spearhead the Maui County GMO initiative, will have a special “SHAKA Zone” in the Akaku Plaza parking lot (333 Dairy Rd., Kahului). That event is scheduled to run 6-10pm.
• The group Citizens Against The Maui County Initiative (the No GMO measure crowd) will have an “election night event” at the Maui Beach Hotel (170 Ka’ahumanu Ave., Kahului). That runs 6:30-10pm.
• The Friends of Alan Arakawa will be eating and watching returns at their Kahului headquarters (180 Wakea Ave., Kahului). The fun starts at 5:30pm.
Those who want to watch local coverage at home can tune into to Akaku (Channels 53, 54 and 55) or stream live on Akaku.org. Election coverage starts at 6pm. Hosts, pundits and analysts include Kathy Collins, Jeff King, Dick Mayer, Zhantell Dudoit, Chivo Ching-Johnson and former MauiTimer Anu Yagi.
Or for those who prefer to listen in on the radio, MauiTime Publisher Tommy Russo and I will be on KAOI tonight to blather on about the returns as they come in. Tune in at 96.7FM or 1110 AM or online at Kaoifm.com.
