Kelly Slater will win his 10th ASP world title with a 3rd place or better finish at the Rip Curl Pro Search in Puerto Rico (an announcement is due today). Slater won his first world title at age 20 in 1992, becoming the youngest surfer ever to earn the honor. He’s now 38, and clearly still dominating the sport.
Which begs the question: is Kelly Slater the greatest pro athlete of all-time? Better than Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Jerry Rice, Tiger Woods? It’s tough to compare given the differences in competition, and individual versus team achievements, but at the very least Slater’s name belongs in the conversation.
What do you think?
