It seems that Molokai residents finally have some good news about their beloved Kanemitsu’s Bakery, which has been taking serious fire from the State of Hawaii Health Department for violations dating back to 2000. In fact, the Health Department closed the bakery for the better part of 2012 because of the alleged unsanitary way in which food was prepared and served.
Anyway, all that seems to be in the past now, according to this Feb. 14 Pacific Business News story. Apparently, the 80-plus year old bakery has agreed to pay a whopping $20,000 in fines to the state. That’s a lot of dough (literally and figuratively), but given the staggering number of residents who line up there each night for arm-fulls of freshly baked bread, we’re figuring the bakery will probably survive this.
