Got a problem? I’ve got a solution… form a committee.
At the end of January, the Senate introduced a bill proposing the formation of a “Hawaii Sports Commission” which would basically try to promote sports events within the state.
Our temporary loss of the pro-bowl was yet another hard hit for our state economy. In 2009, the Pro-Bowl provided a welcome $28 million boost to our economy, and this year, the pro-bowl will not affect the Hawaiian Economy in any significant way, except as another disappointment. The NFL has decided to try to appease irritated Hawaiians by donating $100,000 to Hawaii charities, including Big Brothers and Sisters, Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation, and Girl Scouts.
The Hawaii Sports Commission would do its best to compensate for this loss, by developing and promoting new and existing sporting events. The bill is currently on hold, but its easy to keep track of its development HERE. If the Hawaii Sports Commission is formed, it is going to have a tough time creating a $28 million influx for the Hawaii economy, simply to break even with last year, however every little bit helps.
