This probably isn’t news to most of you out there (well, those with semi-regular access to a running automobile) but gas prices in Hawaii are totally skewed when compared to the rest of the nation. According to the analysts at GasBuddy.com, average retail prices in our fair state rose 1.6 cents per gallon this past week, making an average gallon of 87 octane cost $4.03 American. But that same week, the price of a gallon of gas on the Mainland dropped 4.8 cents, making the average price there a measly $3.66. Gas is 21.2 cents cheaper here than last month, which is actually better than the Mainland, where gas today is just 19 cents cheaper than May.
Oh wait — there’s more. Last year at this time, Hawaiian gas was 59.8 cents cheaper than it is now, though on the Mainland, gas last year at this time was 92.7 cents cheaper than now.
If you’re confused, it’s only because you’re paying attention. Happy motoring!
