The County of Maui will hold a public memorial service for the late former Mayor Elmer Cravalho on Thursday, July 14 at 4:45pm on the front lawn of the Kalana O Maui county building.
Cravalho passed away June 28 at the age of 90. He was the first Speaker of the Hawaii House of Representatives, from 1959 to 1967. He was also Maui’s first mayor, from 1969 to 1979. And he also helped form Maui Economic Opportunity Inc, which continues to help many low-income people of Maui.
“Mayor Cravalho’s family has asked that any wreaths purchased for the ceremony be donated to the county, which we will display in the lobby of the county building,” states a county news release on the service sent out today. “Donations may also be made to Mayor Cravahlo’s favorite charities in his name: Roselani Place, the Sierra Club, Hospice Maui and Heifer International.”
