The Paia Youth and Cultural Center has been awarded two grants through the Hawaii Community Foundation FLEX grants program to support their involvement with the local youth. As a free service, this nonprofit relies on grants, donations and fundraisers to continue the work they’re doing in the community. So the $25,000 they received from the Omidyar Ohana Fund and the $5,000 from the Rev. Takie Okumura Family Fund will help them achieve this.
Started 20 years ago by a group of Northshore boys and girls, the Paia Youth and Cultural Center at Paia Bay now enjoy a membership of over 500 youths. Offering a fun recreation center, as well as the StoneWave Skate Park and programs such as a youth-run radio station and the agricultural Malama Pono Project Venture, they seek to provide a safe place for boys and girls to build community through these social, educational and vocational activities.
