If you fancy yourself a home mechanic, or just to slide underneath your car and change the oil, then you might want to know that there’s a new spot in Kihei to take all that used, dirty petroleum.
“The ‘Do-It-Yourself Home Mechanics’ of South Maui can now take their used motor oil to the Kihei NAPA / United Auto Parts location during regular business hours,” stated a Sept. 13 press release from Malama Maui Nui (aka Community Work Day Program). “This free service is available to home mechanics only, no commercially generated used motor oil will be accepted. NAPA/United Auto Parts is located at 185 Haleku‘ai Street and open Monday-Saturday 8am-5:30pm.”
Malama Maui Nui recently took over the island’s Used Motor Oil Recovery Program, and says that state health officials have estimated that home mechanics in Hawaii produce slightly more than a million gallons of used motor oil every year.
