The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui has awarded their annual $1,000 scholarships to Baldwin High graduate Stacie Cuadro and King Kekaulike High graduate Anna Gragas. Cuadro (pictured above) helped with Japanese student exchange programs, performed in various festivals and is planning to attend Linfield College in Oregon and major in history or political science and minor in Japanese. Gragas studied taiko for nine years, participated in an exchange program and will attend Chapman University in Southern California.
The scholarships are presented every year to graduating high school students who are continuing on to college and have been involved in Japanese cultural events, clubs or projects and plan to continue to preserve Japanese culture as they further their education.
