Imua Family Services came from a humble beginning, helping children with polio in 1947. Now 65 years later, their services are different, but just as critical: their infant and child development programs reach more than 2,000 children on the island.
The organization has seen a terrific year of awards since Executive Director Dean Wong came on board–including getting named as one of Hawaii’s Best Places to Work. But being one of Maui’s most energetic and active non-profits doesn’t come cheap. In these lean times, they must depend on the community to make it all happen. Imua’s next big break is their Fantasia Ball, which is planned for Friday, April 13 at the Grand Wailea.
Combining fashion, ballroom dancing, shopping, banquets, cocktails and an auction, this could be the best Friday the 13th you have ever spent.
Maui Designer Maggie Coulombe will launch her new line on the Fantasia Runway, which features more than 30 avant garde, newly designed ensembles. The UH Maui College, Fashion Technology students also have been given free rein and will have several of their looks on the catwalk.
Dancers trained by Seabury Hall’s Dance Director David Ward and Dance Teacher Vanessa Surrito, as well as ballroom dancers of Rita O’Connor Latin and Ballroom Dancing will delight patrons with Maui’s own Dr. Nat and Rio Ritmo Latin Dance Band in the ballroom. Later, DJ Del Sol will set feet on fire at Tsunami’s nightclub ’till the wee hours of the morning.
Young role model, author, musician and guest speaker Patrick Henry Hughes will also give a spotlight performance, as he exemplifies how all children, including those with disabilities, have great potential.
All the elegance begins with a cocktail reception and shopping experience in the Ballroom Courtyard with boutique shopping from business including Sephora, Latitudes, Biasa Rose, Pearl Butik, Jasmine Honey Designs, Debra Mack Jewelry and Sew in Love. There will also be a silent auction and live auction by emcee Dean Wong. Pacific Island Dinner is served by Chef Eric Faivre and the Grand Wailea Culinary Team.
Reserve your tickets by calling Priscilla Veilleux at 244-7467. Tickets range from $160 to $175 for the whole gala or $25 for the late night dancing at Fantasia Musicana Dance Club (Tsunami), which starts at 10pm.
