The legal and partisan debate over the great experiment dubbed Obamacare seemed endless, but it now seems that the new online health insurance marketplace that Democrats have been promising for years is now just months away. According to a June 10 news release, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently gave the thumbs-up to Hawaii’s proposed “Hawaii Health Connector,” which is what state officials call the website where individuals, families and small businesses can go to buy health insurance.
“This is an important step in our progress to transform healthcare in Hawaii,” said Gov. Neil Abercrombie in the June 10 news release. “Every resident deserves a good, equitable system of healthcare, and this new online marketplace requires insurers to offer better benefits and reward quality.”
State officials say the Hawaii Health Connector should be operational on Oct. 1 of this year. Any plans purchased at the site will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014. Those wanting more information can go to Hawaiihealthconnector.com.
