Outside intrusion…
“This outside intrusion into a Hawaii political campaign is unprecedented and unnecessary. There should be no need for a mainland Democrat group to be involved unless they are afraid of how the people of Hawaii will vote.”
– From an April 8 statement by U.S. House candidate Charles Djou, responding to attack ads funded by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
Too bad Djou doesn’t have any support from Mainland interests. Well, except for the fundraiser hosted by Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele in January. Or the $94,305 that was transfered from the RNC to the Hawaii Republican Party in March, according to the most recent filing with the Federal Elections Committee. Or the $51,300 Djou’s campaign has received from Political Action Committees not based in Hawaii. Or the two appearances he’s made on FOX News in the last three months (February 4 on Red Eye; April 21 on The Sean Hannity Show, during which Hannity told Djou, after a series of softballs, “I like everything that you’re saying”).
Other than that, he’s on his own.
