Yeah, “like” a political campaign. Her communications staff shot photos of Lingle smiling with troops, walking on the Great Wall, glad-handing local Chinese officials, looking interested while being briefed on some new park, signing an agreement with some corporate guy, chatting with the U.S. ambassador and posing for a group shot with all the women leaders from Guandong Province. For someone who’s running for reelection next year against as-yet totally unknown Democratic Party challenger, trips like these provide all sorts of political capital.
