The 70,000-ton Legend of the Seas dropped anchor in Maui’s waters early Mar. 19, then sailed away late the next night. Her previous inspection showed a surprising 41 violations and a score just four points shy of failing. Cleaning seemed to be a problem. For instance, in the Deck Four dining room inspectors found that six “previously cleaned” plates at one wait station were “soiled and stored ready for service” as well as another seven plates and a knife at another wait station in similar condition. The main galley coffee room’s clean storage rack contained two soiled shot glasses. In the main galley breakfast area, 11 plates and the storage cabinet holding them were dirty. In the main galley fish station, inspectors found that “the underside of the previously cleaned griddle was soiled.” In the pool bar pantry, inspectors found clean blender pitchers stored on a rack “soiled with a sticky green drink residue.” Inspectors also tried to check out the handwash section of the Windjammer Galley, but found it was “blocked by two large garbage bins.”
