Civil union bill SB232 cleared another major hurdle last week, as the House passed it by a 31-19 vote. The bill already won initial approval in the Senate and Gov. Abercrombie says he’ll sign it. Of course, that doesn’t mean everyone’s on board.
In testimony provided to the House Judiciary Committee, the Hawaii Family Forum (HFF)—a “pro-family” organization that represents “a network of various Christian churches”—warned the bill will open the door to full-blown gay marriage. “In the states which have adopted civil union laws, activist [sic] have always found them insufficient,” HFF wrote. “Only the redefinition of marriage would be suffice [sic].”
And guess what? They’re right. That is the ultimate goal of the gay rights movement—just like the civil rights movement and every other movement that had to march slowly and incrementally up the hill of entrenched intolerance—total equality. Imagine that.
