Looking for a way to give back this summer? Starting tomorrow, Hawaii Independent Energy will be hosting their Fueling Dreams fundraising event to help benefit Special Olympics Hawaii. From July 2 through Aug. 5, participating Tesoro2Go gas stations will accept donations for Special Olympics Hawaii athletes.
“It’s a way for the entire community to fuel the dreams of these athletes who work hard year-round so that they can proudly represent our state and our country at no cost to them or their families,” said Eric Lee, the general manager of Hawaii Independent Energy’s retail group, in a June 30 company press release.
Since it started nine years ago, Fueling Dreams has raised $416,000. This year’s goal is to raise $34,000.
“We are so thrilled to continue to work with Tesoro and the new Hawaii Independent Energy leadership to help fuel the dreams of our local athletes,” said Nancy Bottelo, Special Olympics Hawaii president and CEO, in the same news release. “For more than 20 years, the company has been one of the biggest champions of our athletes and the funds they provide is [sic] invaluable to allow our athletes to win and thrive on the playing field and in life.”
As part of the fundraiser, everyone who donates to the cause will be entered into a drawing to win one of three Tesoro fuel cards, each worth $500. For donations of $5, you will receive one entry and for donations of $20, you will receive five entries. Donations are not required to enter the drawing.
There are 28 participating Tesoro stations overall, including four locations on Maui:
- Fairgrounds Kahului (243 Pu’unene Ave.)
- Kahului (444 Kele St.)
- Kihei (1279 S. Kihei Rd.)
- Pi’ilani (356 Hoku Li’i Pl.)
