You’ve got a few months to plan, but TEDxMaui is returning to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Sept. 28 for its third year. The daylong event, which is independently produced under license from TED will feature presenters and performers who have passion, curiosity and creativity to change the world with their revolutionary ideas, according to organizers.
Past presenters at TEDxMaui include Dr. Elizabeth Kapu’uwailani Lindsey, the first female Fellow and Polynesian Explorer for the National Geographic Society; Susan Casey, New York Times bestselling author and Editor in Chief at O magazine; W.S. Merwin, U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner; Lisa Kristine, humanitarian photographer; Graham Hill, founder of TreeHugger.com and LifeEdited; Makana Cameron, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter-activist; and Alex Grey, world-renowned artist.
Organizers of TEDxMaui 2014 are currently selecting presenters for this year’s event. Those interested in applying to speak or nominating a speaker can go to tedxmaui.com to fill out the application forms. The final list of presenters will be unveiled later this year.
TED, which stands for “Technology, Entertainment, Design,” is a national nonprofit organization devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading.” The organization hosts an annual conference that has featured numerous high-profile speakers including Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Sir Richard Branson, Steve Jobs and Hillary Clinton.
Created in the spirit of the original TED talks, the annual TEDxMaui event was launched in 2012 by local organizers who wanted to bring inspiration to Maui and share ideas from Maui with the world. All presentations from TED conferences are required to be available free to the public. Past presentations by the national organization are available TED.com. Videos from the first two years of TEDxMaui can be seen at tedxmaui.com.
Tickets for TEDxMaui 2014 will go on sale via the MACC Box Office on April 15. Presentations will be held at the MACC’s Castle Theater and in the Yokouchi Pavilion.
