A benefit fundraiser for Special Olympics Maui Swim Team is set for Saturday, April 26. The public community event—dubbed Swim & Fin—welcomes swimmers of all ages and swim levels to join the fun at Kihei Aquatics Center.
To enter, swimmers must make a minimum entry fee donation of $35; entry fees provide swimmers with a commemorative T-shirt and light refreshments. Entrants will swim based on their age group and prizes will be awarded in various categories.
“It’s a great way to train, exercise, show your support for your community, and just have fun,” said swimming coach Marie White. “Whether you swim recreationally, are on a school or private team, we want you to join us!”
“This year is extra special as we are recognizing our Honorary Chairpersons, Nikilani Rojas and Fae Torres,” said Special Olympics Maui Regional Director Adrienne Laurion. “Both of them have been selected to represent Hawaii at the Special Olympics National Games in New Jersey from June 14-21, 2014 in aquatics.”

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Special Olympics Maui is an accredited area program of Special Olympics Hawaii and a nonprofit organization.
