The Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua has tagged hotel executive Alex Ahluwalia as its new General Manager. Ahluwalia, who began his stint at the luxury hotel Nov. 25, comes to Maui from his post at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, AZ.
“Joining the team at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua is a true honor and privilege,” said Ahluwalia, who has lived and worked on Maui throughout his 25-year hospitality career. “The ladies and gentlemen of the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua are consistently recognized for setting the standard for service excellence. I look forward to leading that team and I can think of no better place to live and work than Maui.”
Ahluwalia, who was with the Tucson Marriott since 2007, was named General Manager of the Year, North America in 2009. During his time in Tuscon, the resort was honored with some very high accolades including the JW Marriott Diversity Excellence Award (2008) and the Alice S. Marriott Award of Excellence in Community Service (2010).
Prior to his work in Arizona, Ahluwalia was the opening General Manager for JW Marriott Fiji Resort & Spa at Momi Bay, Fiji, a 320-room luxury resort that includes private villas, a destination spa, an 18 hole Peter Thomson Golf Course, seven restaurants and bars, event space and cultural center.
Ahluwalia also has worked at several properties across the continental United States including hotels in Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Denver.
Throughout his career, Ahluwalia has spent time in both community and business organizations. He serves on the Boards of Directors for both the Metro Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Southern Arizona Lodging Association. He was formerly the Chair for the Diversity and Inclusion Council for Marriott International, Western Region. He’s also received two Spirit to Serve awards from the company for community engagement in Hawaii.
