Who? Pfc. Raymond Pacleb, 31, 1996 graduate of Pearl City High. Worked at Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club. 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery, 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Unit supply specialist. Member of the Hawaii National Guard.
What? Died in a non-combat situation. (According to Hawaii Defense Departments)
Where? Baghdad, Iraq. (“Remember Iraq?” says editor, Jacob Shafer.)
When? Monday, March 29th
Why? How? Well, absolutely no clue. Under… “Investigation?”
The family and battalion are, of course, in mourning. It’s horrible that yet another young Hawaii boy has lost his life in this way. The curious thing about this case is that it is still under “investigation.” We’ll let you know when there’s more information to go around. call it morbid curiosity if you will, but I can’t help but wonder why the Hawaii Defense Department hasn’t just outed what happened. Doesn’t sound good.
Oh, and quick note to the guys at Ka’ahumanu Mall trying to recruit. If you want to talk about these things to young men who are old enough to (at least legally) make their own decisions (18+); then fine, it’s your right, it’s your job, and I understand why it’s necessary. But stop cornering 13-year-olds.
