Turns out the rumors and mysterious business filings were true: Media Empress Oprah Winfrey, who already owns a hundred acres of Hana, an Upcountry B&B and a private road that stretches between Keokea and Kihei, will shortly begin running Oprah’s Farm, an organic food source right here on Maui, according to a Nov. 11 New York Post blog entry.
Here’s what one of Oprah’s spokespeople told the Post about various filings for the trademarks “Oprah’s Farm,” “Oprah’s Organics” and “Oprah’s Harvest”:
“The trademarks were filed for Oprah’s farm on Maui to enable the farm to grow and distribute produce on Maui and throughout the Hawaiian Islands.”
No word yet on the size or scope of Winfrey’s plan, but we’re sure details will be coming soon.
Pacific Business News first unearthed the “Oprah’s Farm LLC” filing in the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs back in April (click here to read that story). That revelation spurred us to write this slightly humorous invitation to Winfrey to come farm on Maui full time.
