Montage Kapalua Bay hosted a ceremony Thursday, June 12, to mark the official opening of Maui’s newest all-suite luxury resort. Montage Hotels & Resorts Founder and CEO Alan Fuerstman, along with President of Lantern Asset Management Andy Mitchell; Montage Kapalua Bay Vice President and Managing Director Richard Holtzman; and Resort Manager David Hoffman welcomed the Valley Isle community to the new resort. The resort’s cultural ambassador, Silla Kaina, was on hand to bless the property, which was followed by the presentation of a gift from cultural advisor at Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, Clifford Nae’ole.
Community leaders and local dignitaries were hosted in Montage Kapalua Bay’s new signature restaurant, Cane & Canoe, which overlooks the resort’s cascade pool and panoramic view. Resort associates led a traditional song before Fuerstman, Mitchell, Holtzman and Hoffman untied the traditional maile lei, signifying a blessed future for the property.
“We’ve had our sights set on Hawaii since the inception of Montage Hotels & Resorts,” said Fuerstman. “Maui has a special place in my heart, as I first visited the island 33 years ago this month on my honeymoon, and subsequently, Maui has been my family’s favorite vacation destination. It is the culture of Hawaii, and the sincere, gracious hospitality that is the embodiment of my hope of how our guests are treated at Montage Kapalua Bay.”
Cane & Canoe, which will be run by Executive Chef Riko Bartholome, will officially open to resort guests and the general public on June 23.
