Michael Silva was recently appointed to the J. Walter Cameron Center’s board of directors. Cameron Center’s board president Alan Kaufman, D.V.M. announced the new appointment. “As we [are] in the midst of launching our capital campaign, we are fortunate to live in a community that values the type of dedicated service exemplified by Mike’s commitment to the Center’s mission of assisting persons with special needs,” Kaufman said. “I look forward to the energy and ideas he will bring to the board.”
Silva is Vice President and an owner of Fukumoto Engineering, Inc. He’s also the president of the Hawaii Society of Professional Engineers Maui Chapter, chairperson of the County Urban Design Review Board and a 2012 Ka Ipu Kukui fellow. Silva is a member of the Hawaii Land Surveyors Association, Maui Fair Alliance and Maui Young Business Roundtable.
“I’m honored to join the Cameron Center board and look forward to working with a talented group of people to help with the organization’s capital campaign and the various events that are held throughout the year,” Silva said.
Silva was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at Santa Clara University. He subsequently earned a master’s degree in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in Transportation and Urban Design) at San Jose State University. Silva and his wife Traci have been residents of Hawaii since 2004.
The J. Walter Cameron Center facility consists of 65,000 square feet of accessible space, which also includes large public meeting rooms that are available to a variety of community organizations and public agencies; the Center currently accommodates 17 social service organizations that provide a diverse range of health and education. These organizations serve an average of 50,000 Maui residents each year.
