Well, it’s Christmas Eve again–the day before the day when many people celebrate the birth of Jesus (even though he was more likely born in the spring). For Christians and the rest of us, this time of year is supposed to be all about good cheer and good feelings and treating each other with kindness and respect (instead, it’s all about the shopping).
Anyway, for much of the country, cold weather makes it easy to get into whatever spirit of Christmas we’re celebrating. Out here, we have to muddle through these warm days and just try to make the best of it. Thankfully, the good people at Akaku–our county’s public access cable channel–have a partial solution–the televised fireplace!
Here’s the station’s announcement, sent out on Dec. 24:
Akakū would like to wish you a Happy Holiday Season! This Christmas Eve cozy up by the fire with the 8th Annual Yule Log, produced by Akakū CEO, Jay April. The three-hour program will convert Maui residentsʻ TVs into fireplaces for one evening. It will be airing Christmas Eve on Channel 55 at 7:30 p.m. Also, donʻt forget to catch the melodic voices of Nā Mele O Maui 2013 playing from Christmas Eve thru Christmas Day and again on New Years Day on Channel 54.
In the meantime, you can click here if you want to read that really old newspaper editorial where the crusty but benign editor tells a little girl that, yes, there is a Santa Claus.
Or you can click here to read how a stupid typo in a Sears catalog led to NORAD tracking Santa every year.
Or you can just click here and read about how a disturbingly high percentage of folks in Great Britain believe that Santa (sorry–Father Christmas) was actually at the manger when little Baby Jesus was born.
Merry Christmas!
