Today’s Sunday edition of The Maui News—best enjoyed in the early hours with a cup-o-brew and…—reports that “State Senator J. Kalani English will probably grab a few head lines when he introduces two bills in the legislative session this week: one to legalize medical marijuana dispensaries and the other to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana.”
(read the full article HERE, to find out why “his bills for Hawai’i are the logical extension of what’s already happened here and the changing attitudes towards marijuana, or cannabis, across the nation and world”)
“Early last year, the Obama administration instituted a “hands off” policy when it comes to medical marijuana and backed off his predecessor’s policy of using federal law enforcement agents to raid dispensaries.”
Personally, I also like to maintain a hands-off my pakalolo policy–unless you’re in my Choom Gang.
If you’re perusing the MT blogs without having yet read this week’s cover story by Jacob Shafer, set down (or spark up) the J and do so; and gain perspective on the growing advocacy for regulation not prohibition, from a Canadian cop on the front lines.
Oh, and speaking of regulation vs. prohibition, read how similar issues a century ago (today!), pertaining to opium, helped undo the monarchy of the Hawaiian kingdom (a little shameless promotion, by yours truly).
