Lahainaluna junior Maiki Viela—who helped lead the Lady Lunas in a 17-0 season—is drinking up accolade after being named Hawaii’s Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year, as reported by The Maui News. Founded in 1985, Gatorade’s “Player of the Year” award celebrates 25 years of honoring elite high school athletes; and Viela is but the second Luna to earn such an award (the last being Aina Kohler, over a decade ago).
