The folks at The Color Run really know what they’re doing. On Mar. 30, they held their first ever 5k on Maui. According to the Mar. 31 Maui News, 5,700 people showed up to get dowsed with multi-colored cornstarch while running (Thecolorrun.com shows they run dozens of these races across the nation).
Since race organizers charging people between $45 and $50 to run in the 5k, that means The Color Run–a for-profit corporation–collected about a quarter million bucks.
Of course, before the race they announced that they’d donate $40 to the Maui United Way for every volunteer who showed up. Since 200 volunteers took part in the race, the charity took in $8,000, said Maui United Way President Laksmi Abraham.
Of course, the United Way was happy to get that money. Never mind The Color Run’s huge take–that’s $8,000 more than the United Way had last week!
Officials with The Color Run didn’t respond to a request for comment by press time.
