On Tuesday, April 2, a shark attacked a 58-year-old man surfing about 100 yards in front of the Maui Kai Resort in Ka’anapali. In this April 4 story, The Maui News reported that the nab, who still has not been identified, is receiving treatment at Maui Memorial Medical Center for the leg wound he suffered.
There was speculation that the attack involved a reef shark, but nothing has been confirmed by press time. The beach fronting the Maui Kai is now open again.
This morning, County of Maui officials released the audio from the 911 call on the shark attack. The audio file below, which actually includes two calls, is four minutes long.
