We don’t get many press releases from County Communications Director Rod Antone like this, which is why we’re presenting it in its entirety:
“Maui Police have closed off the parking lot of the Maui County Service Center because of suspected explosive devices in one of the vehicles in the lot today.
“This means that all County employees working in the service center have been told to evacuate as well as members of the public that were there for service center business.
“The devices were said to be a mortar round and a grenade. Maui police have contacted the U.S. Army Explosive Ordinance [sic] Disposal Unit to secure the suspected explosives.
“Maui police will be releasing more information later about the circumstances regarding the devices and how they came about to be in the Maui Mall parking lot.”
I’m sure we’ll be hearing more on this in the next few hours…
