The Bailey House Museum in Wailuku is offering a paid work study program for high school students. Known as the Alexa Kahui HC&S High School Internship, it calls for interns to work in various museum departments including the gift shop, grounds, office or on special projects. The internship requires 18 hours of work per week during school breaks and six hours on Saturdays when school is in session.
Funding is provided through a $3,500 grant from Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar, which has been funding the high school internship program since 2007. The program began in an effort to create an interest in preserving Maui’s history while teaching general office and customer service skills.
This year, the internships began on June 8 for the summer, with additional programs starting on Aug. 10 for the fall and Jan. 11 for the spring. To set up an interview or receive more information about the program, call the Bailey House Museum at 808-244-3326, or email them at info@mauimuseum.org.
