MauiDish believes there’s plenty of room in our current food environment to support locally sourced meals, community gardens and local food producers. In this spirit we embrace Community Work Day’s efforts in assisting and establishing school and community gardens.

My name is Matt Lane from Community Work Day. What if I told you that I believed your efforts could help change the 90% importation rate of an island, create food security, prevent obesity, disease, and save precious resources forever!
I am proud to tell you I really do. If everyone believes in it you will see the change. Will you believe with me and support one of the 16 gardens we have worked on this year in Maui County? They are there to create the change! Everything you need to be happy is right here in your community. It starts with a garden, that teaches you, provides you plants, seeds, teaches you to divert your waste, encourages you to eat locally, puts food on your table, brings your family together for dinner, saves resources, provides food security, educates our children, and most of all keeps us all healthy and happy!
Our goal is to find at least 9 supporters per garden. We will have 144 organizations supporting 16 very special community gardens in Maui. Think about how many people will talk about this, about the food grown, these gardens, and whats happening in Maui. I leave it up to you. What do you believe in? Read the email below, look at the statistics, watch the video with Michelle Obama and our Maui Gardens, print out a pledge form, and call me up! This could be the most important thing you do this year!
We at Community Work Day have pledged to continue our support for years to come with these projects, but would appreciate your written commitment to the garden of your choice.
Its our chance to fight our 90% importation rate of food in Maui, obesity, and disease. We can instead create physical activity, educate our children, provide Food Security for our kids, for ourselves, and save precious resources. Please read this over, print the committment form and return today.
I believe in this movement. In fact I have dedicated almost two years of my life to it and intend on doing so as long as I can. Food Security is something I think about every day of my life. Its going to take our support to make this happen!
Please sponsor a garden! If you have time please call me at 808.357.0920
Its a simple as picking a garden and pledging how you will support it.*For example one supporter pledged their business to help with 4 (3) hour work days a year and to raise money a few times a year.
