One of the best places to pick up bento’s in Wailuku is TJ’s Warehouse so I got really excited when I found out they were offering a dollar off bentos if you make a donation to Maui Food Bank of one or more canned goods. TJ’s is lending a hand to their Spring Food Drive. TJ’s selection of bentos is incredible, if you are looking for a quick bite TJ’s has it. They have somen and soba salads, miso butterfish, korean chicken, spam, gyoza, unagi, green salad, pork cutlet, chicken katsu, fried saba, chow fun, shrimp tempura, and fried poke just to name a few!
The local bento is just $6.75, pretty reasonable for a hearty prepacked box of rice with Korean Chicken, Teriyaki Beef, Tamagoyaki (rolled egg or Japanese rolled omelet), Spam, and Breaded Hokki (fish). [pictured above courtesy of TJ’s]
TJ’s is also a market with fresh veggies, asian grocery goods, fresh seafood, kitchen gadgets, pots, dry goods and hello kitty gifts. I look for a lot of Japanese specialty product here too. They will be running their dollar off special from April 14 to May 2, 2014, and the Maui Food Bank canned good receptacle is at the front of the store. You can also donate at the register, they will take monetary donations there as well. They have a rewards card program that will offer points and discounts so ask for that at while you are there. The store also does special tastings, like this Friday on April 19, Ka’iulani of Ka’iulani Spices will be demonstrating and tasting her spices from 10 am to noon, and there will be Takikomi rice samples too. I have the curry Ka’iulani spice in my pantry and its ono.
TJ’s Warehouse is located at the Wailuku Industrial Park at 875 Alua St., and its open from 7 am to 7pm weekdays.
