That people flock to this guy’s movies shows that American movie audiences are by and large filled with nostalgic, sentimental fools. Say Anything? Pointless. Almost Famous? Goofy. Vanilla Sky? A two-hour long Futurama episode, though not as insightful. What do you people see in this guy? Please, please, PLEASE don’t tell me it’s his soundtracks. I swear all he does is turn on the radio every time he hits a music cue and then plugs in what he hears. I don’t need some Hollywood hack making millions selling my own youth back to me—if I want to get teary-eyed over my childhood, I’ll fire up a Gilligan’s Island DVD. (AP)
