Oceanfront Dining in Kaanapali is spectacular at Tropica. You are practically in the sand. Their recent renovations sound amazing too. This is on my to-do list so I thought I would share it here:
A REFRESHED AND RENEWED EXPERIENCE AWAITS DINERS
AT TROPICA RESTAURANT & BAR
Oceanfront Restaurant at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa
KA’ANAPALI BEACH, MAUI, HAWAII – Situated along Ka’anapali Beachwalk, The Westin Maui Resort & Spa’s signature Tropica Restaurant & Bar recently reopened with a refreshed look and ambience. A traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony conducted by resort director of fun and Hawaiian officiant Jack Stone marked the soft-opening attended by resort associates. The restaurant was closed for a week in July for enhancements and inspired touches that included extended seating area complete with new furniture, new hostess stand, outdoor thatched umbrellas, flagstone flooring and additional tiki torches.
In addition to cozy seating for couples with unrivalled sunset and ocean views, the restaurant also offers round-table seating for families and friend get-togethers. New dark-colored woven chairs that are weather-resistant complement the plantation-style teak tables. Two koi ponds anchor each side of the outdoor restaurant with tumbling waterfalls and tiki torches creating a picturesque setting for customers seeking a distinctive dining experience. The overall project was estimated at $350,000 and was undertaken after the outdoor seating area was affected by a small fire that was quickly contained, leaving the indoor seating area unaffected by the incident.
With its new ambience, Tropica Restaurant & Bar continues to delight its customers with award-winning menu selections and an extensive wine list. Executive Sous Chef Rich Hinojosa and newly-appointed Tropica Chef Ikaika Manaku have created a winning combination of specials featuring Maui’s famed local ingredients and Westin’s branded cuisine that promote a complete sense of renewal. Rich also favors a good wine list that includes wines from Spain, Portugal and Australia to complement menu selections. “Tropica Restaurant & Bar encompasses the elements of taste, balance, presentation and service. When you put that right by Ka’anapali beach, it is a truly unique experience,” said Rich.
Menu favorites include “Potato Gnocchi with Meyer Lemon Sauce and Pistachio”; “Seared Diver Scallops with Braised Fennel Puree, Heirloom Tomatoes, Arugula and Citrus Reduction” and “Pacific Catch of the Day” with island fish prepared to your taste. Other interesting choices that tease the palate include “Roasted Pork Belly with Sweet and Sour Kula Onions”, “Pohaku Seared Beef on a Hot Stone”, “Flat Bread with Summer Vegetables and Maui’s Dairy Goat Cheese”, “Kula Greens with Grape Tomato and Kula Lavender Vinaigrette”, “English Pea Risotto with Kona Lobster” and “Maui Pineapple Fritters”.
Rich and Ikaika believe in changing menu selections based on seasonal products, customers’ preferences as well as seeking new local flavors to incorporate in their dishes. “We are most passionate in supporting the local business and buying fresh ingredients from local farmers. Almost 80% of our menu items are made using local produce. Fish is freshly caught locally and we do try our best to have as much local seafood as possible,” elaborated Rich. “Other initiatives undertaken to support Maui community include participating in fundraising events such as the festival organized by Lahaina Restoration Foundation and most recently Maui Calls organized by Maui Arts & Cultural Center,’ added Rich.
With most people becoming cost conscious and seeking an affordable dining experience, Tropica Restaurant & Bar offers a three-course tasting menu at $33.00* per person ($43.00 with wine pairing) with delicious choices for appetizers, entrees and desserts. The restaurant’s bar also offers “Pau Hana Happy Hour” with discounted drink specials from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
